Before You Begin
- Your Visio or Project product key (received via email and in your account)
- A stable internet connection
- Microsoft Visio or Project already installed on your PC (see “How to Download” below if you need to install it first)
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 (Visio and Project are Windows-only)
Note: If you already have Microsoft Office installed, Visio and Project will integrate seamlessly alongside your existing Office apps.
Step 1 — Open Visio or Project
Open Visio or Project from the Start menu. If the product is not yet activated, you’ll see a prompt or a yellow bar asking you to activate.
Step 2 — Enter Your Product Key
Go to File → Account and click “Change Product Key” or “Activate Product.”
Enter your 25-character product key in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX and click “Activate.”
Tip: Use the Copy button on your order page to copy the key without typos, then paste it with Ctrl+V.
Step 3 — Activation Complete
The product will verify your key online with Microsoft servers. After a few seconds, you’ll see “Product Activated” in File → Account.
Your Visio or Project is now fully activated and ready to use.
How to Download & Install Visio or Project
Important: With an Online Key, you cannot download directly from Microsoft’s website — that option is only available for Bind Keys. Use our download tool below to get the official Microsoft installer for your version and language.
Alternative: Activate via Command Prompt
If the in-app method doesn’t work, you can activate using the command line:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator
- Navigate to the Office installation folder:
cd "C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice16" - Install the key:
cscript ospp.vbs /inpkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX - Activate:
cscript ospp.vbs /act
You should see a “Product activation successful” message.
Troubleshooting
“This product key didn’t work”
Make sure the key matches the product version you have installed (e.g., a Visio 2021 key won’t work on Visio 2019). Also check for extra spaces when pasting.
